LFS quarantine Q?

Okay, the main LFS I go to is slow, like honestly im not sure how they're in business But I was wondering, If something has been there for like 4-5 months and isnt sick, is it safe-ish to put in my tank? All the tanks at the LFS are not connected, each has its own heater and HOB filter. I know these fish have been there for a long time, one fish has actually been there for almost a year all by itself (and if I had room for a miniatus grouper it'd be here not there) I mean I can QT but its not like these fish were in the ocean a week ago :)

i would say you would have to know if they have added any new fish to that system in the last 3 weeks.if not and all the fish in that system look good i dont see why you couldnt add him to your dt.

+1 I think a critter that has been at the store for a while is the best one to buy. You know its healthy.

Thanks guys, I'm in there every few days so when something changes I have a good idea about it. There are just 2 tanks i wont buy from, one with an aptisia outbreak that would make most of you guys cry (im talking at least 300 in a 29 gallon and some are the size of a grown man's thumb) and one i just noticed 2 manjano. But its okay i didnt want what's in those tanks anyway. :) What I like there is I can get "live rock" at base rock prices because they dont have lights on their live rock, so all the coraline dies, but still plenty of bacteria and other live critters, oh and its all good shapes and the like... just the owner doesnt want to spend the money on some good lights.

Not that I would not do the same thing as you but just because it looks healthy does not mean it is not a carrier
You know someone had to say it

thats why i said 3 weeks.if no new fish were added in that time frame and there is no visible disease no fish in there would have a disease.but i would make sure about the 3 week timeline.

Also, do you know what they run in their systems? Are they running copper? Are there mixed invert and fish tanks at this store? Or are they running separate systems for fo and Io??
This would be the deciding factor for me. Just because a fish doesn't show ick or velvet or something, doesn't mean they have developed a proper immunity or are necessarily "healthy". Just means that if the LFS is running copper, the bacteria can't sustain in that particular system.

Most of their tanks have a mix of inverts and fish, like most almost every tank has some hermits and one shrimp or another. They dont use chemicals unless something gets sick, then it goes in one of the 3 tanks that are set for such a purpose (ie dead bare and copper stained silicon). My main thing is he has "misbar" percula clowns and they are cheaper than I can get normal clowns most places, just dont have any way to QT them at the moment due to current logistics
