LFS Reef Tank pix

I posted an earlier topic about my cult LFS and went by today with my digital camera - here are some pictures:

The above is a 900 gallon tank - covering the whole room. They have a bunch of devices all hooked up to an X10 system apparently and control a bunch of aspects of the tank via remote control.
Here are some close ups of the tank - it puts our local marine aquarium's reef tank to shame I have to say:

I asked them if it was ok to take some pictures and they actually encouraged me to do so. I think it's understandable if you had a tank that looked like that, you'd be quite proud!
That lettuce is an entire head. But what was even more funny, was while I was there, one of the guys threw a half-eaten eggroll into the tank and the fish went crazy over it. I've heard they feed the fish pizza and whatever else they have that might be laying around - hmmmm, maybe that's the secret to a successful reef tank? PIZZA and EGGROLLS! LOL
There isn't a single freshwater tank on the premesis. And in another room downstairs they have big bins of live rock and coral underneath 400w MH's hanging from the ceiling.
I was talking to the owner the other day and he was staring at a monitor of the view in the live rock room with his hand on the remote control, and I asked what he was doing, and he said, "watch". A young guy was peering at coral in the tank when he pressed a button on the remote and a stream of water sprayed out of the tank into the suprised customer. They have several pumps hooked up to a remote control with carefully-aimed outlet tubes and they play practical jokes on people by squirting water - it's a fun place.

Hey I have to say those are some of the best looking tanks i've ever seen. And they are even down to earth. Man they got to make a place like they where I live. Sounds like an awsome place enjoy it, love it, and don't take it for granted.
Peace

Pizza and eggrolls? Does that mean I have to feed my fish from the Gulf Of Mexico Tex-Mex? What if a fish gets gas? Does it float to the top? Do I have to feed my Mandarin Goby chinese food? What if he's still hungry a half hour later?
Good Monday Morning to ya!

I have to say, the more I go here the more I like these guys. The other day I wanted to get a powerhead and they actually recommended one that was cheaper than the one I was about to buy because they thought it was a better unit!
Hey, Adron, didn't know you were in the area - if you ever want to hang out and share some wisdom when you're in the NO area, let me know - I'm just getting started and want to avoid making as many mistakes as possible.

WOW! I am blown away by those pictures. Thank you so much for sharing! I also notice the lettuce and was shock! But at least I have heard of doing that. pizza????
Thanks,
Connie

Nice store and photos. I have to drive at least a half hour to the nearest store and even then I usually go home empty handed for there isn't always what I want or quality. With my store it is luck if the coral or fish dies and it is always after the garentee.

That is proabably one of the nicest setups that I have scene at a LFS!!!! How are their prices compared to other LFS around you? I guess even if they are a little on the high side it would be worth it to buy from them, seeing that they know what they are doing! That is awesome!

They claim they are hated by the other LFS because they are hobbyists and sell much cheaper. I do think their prices are across the board a bit cheaper than other LFS.
If there's anything that bugs me, it's the double-edged sword of how informal they can be sometimes. Most everthing in the store does not have prices on it and depending upon who you talk to, what kind of mood they're in, and what your relationship is with them, you're likely to get a hefty variation in prices.
I was in there a few days ago and I inquired about this beautiful green brain coral that was probably 8" across. The guy said $79. I went in a few days later and heard someone else ask about the same piece and was quoted $45. I guess it comes down to who you know and how well in that place - at this point, I'm just a "new guy".
The shop is in Kenner, near the airport.
