LFS - Whats Most Important?

I voted appearance. Knowledge is nice, but it isn't anything I can't find more of online. If all I cared about was price, then I would order all my stuff online or wait to get fish cheap used. Livestock is a given, or if you mean appearance of livestock, then that goes with appearance. Selection is what separates a good LFS that meets the appearance criteria and a great one that meets the same criteria.

If they have good looking fish and a decent selection, that is what matters to me. I have started to buy my stuff here at SWF, because the fish have been dunked in fewer tanks than the LFS's and have less chance of carrying bad stuff home. Other than that, though, I can tell a strong fish by it's activity and color. Whatever I need to know, I come here or -- and read up. Most LFS's have SFB's that spit out whatever they heard some other customer say and if you go to one LFS you get one answer, then go to another, a totally different answer. At least that's the way it is in SoAz.

stdreb, bay area aquarium is where i go most often. I talk to the guys in there all the time, thier really cool guys. Have nice coral too, i go in there so much that i see everything new that comes in. haha.
HAve you been to all about fish, its just off the freeway right before fuqua, if you take the almeda genoa exit, and stay on the feeder, its right on that side of 45 (going towards galveston). HE has REALLY nice coral, a bit expensive, but really nice. Fish Gallery is a nice store, they just have bland stuff to me?
all of their nice stuff is in that big display tank, and isnt for sell.

appearance- If I went into 2 different shops and they had the same item in the tank with one shops tanks looking nasty and one shops looks clean, I would gladly spend a couple xtra bucks on the cleaner tank item, although everything stated above is semi important, appearance is the most.

Price for me.
I don't need the store to have good knowledge, I find it out for myself by looking on the internet, reading a book or talking to someone experienced.
Its better to come into a nice clean store but its not all that important although I would perfer it.
Selection is nice but I'm not looking for anything out of the ordinary.
Livestock, well I'm not going to shop somewhere if all the fish are unhealthy. Most stores have a few fish like this that I have seen, you just have to look for the fish and the tanks that are healthy. If this is a regular occurence at the store you should shop somewhere else.
So, here both saltwater stores are oddly only a few blocks apart. They both look the same pretty much, not the best looking stores but have some great displays and the fish all seem to be healthy for the most part. So if I'm looking for a flame angel I would go from store to store looking at the price and dealing with who ever I can get the best price from.

knowledge, cause if they know their stuff, i would think that everything else would fall in place. the store and the tanks would look good. they would have a good selection of livestock that would be healthy, and the prices....well, they are in it to make a buck.

I picked Knowledge I have a great LFS near me and he gets hammered on fridays why you ask that is when he puts his newe Saltwaters on sale that he has had since the week before. This place even has a 200 gallon reef that if you see something you want in it out it comes. He also knows what he is selling. There was someone that wanted to put a Clown Trig in a reef setup HE REFUSED TO MAKE THE SALE. Also his selection on foods can not be touched only place in my area I can get a Marine Angel pellet that has Sponge in it for my big guys may they now RIP.
r u talking about reef fx in forsyth?

someone voted price...what?
that wasnt me, but come on. If you are selling true perculas for $5 that appear decently healthy, you'll get customers.
I think appearance and then selection.

+1 on appearance. Seeing dead fish in tanks at stores is a bit of a turnoff. I like knowledgable people as well, but I am sure all too often people just pretend to know what they are talking about, because they don't want to say "I don't know" and miss a sale.
Selection is not super important. I can almost guarantee that if I want a dragon moray or a crosshatch trigger or a dalmation dogface, it would be a special order. Of course tanks full of damsels are not what I would hope to see, but I wouldn't expect a store to keep a variety of rare fish. (or maybe I misunderstand.)

I picked appearance. I figure that if a place looks good and the tanks look good the chances R, the people running it know what they R doing. If I am not happy about the selection and the price I can always go online. I have found some great deals that way.
I don't want to pay good money on a fish and have it die in two days because the poor fish was put into a bad environment. The LFSs that I frequent usually don't guarantee SWF.
