its nothing like a ugf, its a chamber that flows water thru with a high amount of media inside to colonize bacteria for the nitrogen cycle. i have nevered used one but from what i hear they work good for filtering but you get no gas exchange and they can crash pretty fast if the power goes out.

I have this product! It is the best fluidized bed on the market!
You have to replace the media about once a year and it does cause a minor spike in your levels but nothing to worry about!
If the power goes out it does not crash!!!! The only thing that you have to worry about is getting air inside the chamber, and if your pump is underwater I would think that would be a preatty hard task! I have nothing but good things to say about this product!

if your power is out for a couple of days the bacteria colonizing in the media is going to die and if its your only source of filtration you"ll be in trouble is what i meant!! it is a very effecient filter but i would rather have a wet dry then a fluidized bed imo.

Can you please clarify. I am new to these types of filters and I have a small tank. I am also wondering about the oxygen, I have heard that they depleat it. If so how do you replace?
Thanks
