Hey guys. I just started my first reef tank 2 months ago. Its a 55 with 80 lbs LS, 80 lbs of LR, wet/dry sump with Mag 5 and a Remora with a Mag 3. For inhabitants there is a copperband butterfly, flame angel, green chromis, 2 perc clowns and a Randall's shrimp goby and shrimp. The clean up crew consists of 10 turbos, 12 blue legs, 12 astreas, 2 cleaner shrimp and an urchin.
The question I have is about the lighting for the coral, as far as how long it should be. I keep only softies and have a Nova Extreme T5 fixture. Its got two seperate switches and each is 65Wx2. There is 2 true actinics (purplish color) That come on at 2:30. The other lights come on at 3:30 and those are one 10k bulb, and one true actinic bulb. The 2 actinics then shut off at 4:30 leaving the 10k and one actinic. The 2 actinics come back on at 8:30 and shut the 10k off at 9:30. The actinics then shut off at 10:30, leaving the white moonlights on. I guess is 8 hours enough with only 6 hours true "daylight"?
The corals in question consist of a 5" kenya tree, 40 zoa polyps, about a 7" pulsing xenia, 5" leather, 4" green and red open brain, 10" purple gorgonian, 10" green BTA and a 9" scolemia (sp?). Thanks. Sorry for all the typing!
