I have 22 nassarious snails in my QT atm and I give them she same light timing that the DT gets.
Do they even need light? if I didn't turn on the light for the next month while they are in QT would there be any ill effects?
I've heard something about thier shells growing from actinics or soemthing like that. Just wondering. I could cut out a little light bill there.

I doubt it matters. I have snails in my sump, they've been there for years and there's no light down there.

ahh good point on the sand. hadn't thought of that.
I guess what had me wondering is that i put them in the tank and turned on a little CFL light that sits on the side of the tank. well about half of the snails actually climbed up the glass right up next to the light for some reason. the rest are evenly dispursed amongst the remainder of the tank.
There is some neat algae that grows right under that light at the waterline so maybe they were jsut going after that. although I thought nassys only ate meaty stuff.

Some of mine climb the walls sometimes....you know the old saying...."The Grass is always greener....." Maybe they think there is some really special stuff up there

well, actually it is. I've never seen algea like this. it's long and fairly thick and stringy, at first glange i thought it was hair algea, but then i felt it and it was kinda wirey and hard.
Pretty neat when its growing in your QT instead of your DT hehehe.
The lights are a 5000k and 3000k CFL so I'm sure that has something to do with it.

I have no idea, and I'm guessing it's not a threat as long as its in the Qt and not in my DT so I just leave it grow.
