Is the brace in the middle going up into a triangle? and what is the brace made of? have you thought about using hanging fixtures I know a lot of companies sale them with there lights. What are you tank dimensions

the brace is a euro style brace around the rim of the tank, the metal truss looking brace on the very top is the roof pannel support, I can't have any hanging fixture due to the center overflow in the tank, I'm just not sure how close to the acrylic braceing I can get with out melting, as I am going full reef and will need Halides for the depth of the tank..

each panel is approx. 40"h x 40w" the entire tank is almost 6' side to side,
you can tell the size by the 26" bike sitting by the tank and the height of it by the size of the refrigerator next to it. the opening in the top is almost 4' across, but has the center overflow right in the middle.
Thank Greg

LOL, I have seen this tank before. Congrats on awesome tank purchase. Are you gonna leave it that color or are you gonna paint it?

i'm confused. if the red panels are 40" x 40", how can the glass be 72" x 72"?

wow that looks like a nightmare to stick your hands in the tank to do stuff.....
on the topic of lights... hanging fixture would be the only soultion i see fit.

agree looks like hanging penent is about the only choice, probably (4) 400w MH, that would be about 4.5 watt per gal. being that deep I would think the MH would be your only choice

how close can the lights be to the acrylic without melting it ???
I was thinking I could permanently mount them around the inside of the tank opening but not sure how close I can put them without melting the tank..

I'M not sure how close would be to close, a 400 watt MH is gona put out a lot of heat. You might have to trial and error and move them up some if it's getting to hot. I would say min.8" with fans blowing might be enough, but it's really hard to say for sure. I was thinkig if you could build like a square frame and mount the lights to that and either suspend it from the ceiling or some how mount it to the top of the tank, it would give more room and more adjustment capibility. just a thought, from the looks it doesn't seem like you have a lot of room to mount inside the frame.

right I don't, not sure if I went with 4 spider reflectors and 4 400 watt halides mounted in a square like pattern if it will work, I shouldn't have any trouble with the T5's over the top of the acrylic right? I know I will lose a lot of light penetration but the halides will help correct that...

so are you thinking about t-5's and then mh also? the t-5's would be ok close to the acrylic but still put out some heat you would want a few inches between the light and top. and from what I understand t-5's are good for up to around 30" dp.
for some reason I was thinking four opening in the top but you actually have six opening I believe, so with four mh you would be over a brace.
how would six 250watt mh work out? would that fit over each opening,
won't have quit the penetration as 400watt, but very light entense corals could be up from the bottom a bit and should be fine, I have ran 150 watt mh on 30" deep tanks and worked ok. just have to watch placement of things.
this might work out better anyway since some things require less light then others.
just throwing out some ideas here

I think that the lights should be about 12" off the water. I AM GLAD EVERYTHING IS GOING GOOD FOR YOU.. Do you still have the puffer? I hope I am remembering right... LOL.. Do you have any pics?
