We are going out of town Wednesday and I need to put my lights on timers. How long should I set the timers for the lights to be on?
Thanks

You dont have your lights on timers anyway? Thats a real pain to maintain a good light cycle without timers. What kind of coral do you have in the tank?

All I have in the tank is 2 FP Clowns, 1 golden Jawed Goby, and 55
+ lbs live rock. Nothing more. I turn the lights on at 7:30 when I get up and normally turn them off around 9 when I go to bed. With going out of town I have decided to get them on a better schedule. Why is my question so hard to just answer?
markanderson - My lights are a one unit light, do I have to have the 2 lighting styles on different timers? Cause with the set up I don't think I can. The unit (coralife) has 2 blue and 2 regular lights. Each bulb is 65 watts (I have only had the tank up for 5 months and still learning alot of this).

Do the blue light have a different power cord then the regular? If so there are duel timers that allow you to run the blue lighting independently of the regular.
If its all on one powercord it may be time to upgrade. In general fish need to that the blue lighting running for at least half an hour before the main lighting turns on and for a half hour after the main lighting turns off. Its like the sunset for them and lets them no its time to go to bed. If the lights just turn off its very stressful.

I am silly, there are 2 cords. I just have to get another timer for the main lighting. Thanks so much. Also, We have a lunar light too does it really matter to have one of them?

I run blues from 2pm-12pm, all from 3pm-11pm, and moons from midnight to 7am. This puts optimum viewing time in the evening when we're home from work.

Your question is "so hard to just answer" because coral plays a big difference in what you need to do. If you have nothing but fish and LR in the tank, I say give em a solar eclipse for the weekend.
