Lighting and corals!!!

The hammer corals and torch are one of my favorate corals. how many watts per gallon do I need for them.

what size tank do you have and what type of lighting do you currently have? pcs? mh?vho? etc. we need quite a bit more info before we can help ya out1

i have a 75 gal tank w/ 2 55 watt pc lights, 4 55 wat atinic lights. I know about mh lighting and i am considering it but if i don't have to spend $600 i will be happy. Also do u know any way i can upgrade the bulbs thaT ARE STILL 22" LONG.

I'm not to sure on how much light these corals need but I think you will need more. As far as MH's go you can do a DIY project and spend less than $300 for 2 175w bulbs and a PFO ballast.

I have the same question. In my case I have 130W of PC. 1 65W 10K bulb and one 65 W Actinic. The tank is only 29 G currently have soft corals but was very interested in gettin a open brain or frog spawn . Can this be done?

I think you will need more light as well.

Ok then please expand. I have been monitoring this web site for only 4 weeks but I have seen the number 3-5 Watts per/G . My math shows that I have about 4.5 Watts /G. That should put me in the range everyone shoots for. Id PC Watts different then VHO or MH watts?

Euphylia (frogspawn, hammer, torch) do not require that intense light. I think both of you would be able to keep specimens of either. I don't think that MH lights are necesarry for these corals, but it would be a good upgrade overall. I have both a frogspawn and a branching hammer that are doing very well, but they do have significantly more light.

i have a frogspawn and red open brain in my 30 gal high. i recently added a third 65 watt pc, but they were doing fine with the 2x65 setup. neither coral really needs intense lighting.
