there are no corals that you should keep under normal output flouresent lights imo. there are some corals that need no light but they are difficult to care for. if you want to keep soft corals and some lps i would upgrade to pc's. you can pick up a decent fixture on the auction site for around 100$. look for oddyssea they are cheep and ive had good success with them.

I'd say no, probably not. 75 watts of fluorescent over a 24" high tank won't do much. For anything but maybe mushroom corals, you're going to need metal halides. I suggest twin 250 watt MH with like 92 watts of actinic supplementation.

I was "Told" ... this means nothing ... that if i put in a "coral Sun blue light and a keep one of my white aqua bulbs on it it should be fine ...but then this came from the guy at the fish store....
is this true or do i need a fixture too?

your fixture just doesnt have the intensity to successfully support corals regardless of the type of bulbs you have. now when you do upgrade either to power compacts, metal halides, vho, or t-5 flourescent, you will want to have a combination of daylight 10k bulbs and actinic blue bulbs. all reef floureescent fixtures(pc's vho t-5) will come with both types of bulbs or bulbs that are 50/50. mh's may not need actinic depending on what k bulbs you get. mh's are the best and most expensive. ime ther is little difference in flourescent fixtures that are of equal power.

would this be good enough?
a 6 X 39 watt (234 watt total) T5 hood
OR
Power Compact Catalina Aquarium Ultra Reef Light with 3 x 96 watt bulbs

ok t-5 w/ 6 moon lights it is then ... do i need to put it on a stand or can i lay it flat on the top?
also do i need to have an open tank (no lid) or can i leave the lid?
the stands realy wont work due to the odd shape of the aquarium
here is an old pic when i had crushed coral in it ... now its all sand
