:jumping: The whole reason I bought a tank was for clown fish & I want an anenome to go with them I have a 40gal tank w 2 florescent lights one day light & one marine glo 20w (blue) it says ideal for saltwater corals & invertebrates. Are there florescents that I can use to keep anenomes???
Thank alot

The ones you need are power compact flourescents or VHO bulbs. What you have in there now will not work for an anemone. They require very high powered lighting. For your 40 gallon tank, you will need IT LEAST 200 total watts of lighting (10 times what you currently have).
Clownfish do not need an anemone to live and vica-versa. In fact, many of the tank-bred clownfish that you buy will not host in an anemone. Mine have been in my tank with my rose BTA for over a year and have not paid one bit of attention to it.
Just something to think about.

Just get yourself a single metal halide fixture, 150 watt DE or 175 Watt SE, and place the anemone under it. Much cheaper than running VHO's over the whole tank when you only want 1 critter that needs the light.

I have a 55gal with a greens carpet anemone with about 240 watts compact bulb white and blue and he is doing alright, but losing tipps from lack of light..So im getting a fixture setup that holds 2- 150 watt 10,000k MH and 2-130 watt compact blue with 6 moon light to get full light a anemone neededs. It worth it because have two perc that host in it an will never leave it.. And look cool!!

Cubs how long have you had your 55 gal tank & how much is the lighting system going to set you back??? I can wait to get an anemone but I do want to get one my brother has 2 clowns that "love" (I guess as close to love a fish can have toward something) their anemone and they are cool to watch in it...
Thanks to all that posted it's all really helpful.

My tank has been up for about 2 years. But just bought green carpet anemone about 45 days ago and then got two false perc two days after anemone. Then hosted in anemone in about 4 hours of putting them in tank. But might of got lucky!!! But looks cool to see clownfish swim in an anemone. Anemone is like a drug for my clowns..LOL Will never leave!!! My light system will set me back around $670 dollars...But worth it around 560 watts..

Sounds cool I'd probably do it for the clownfish too!!! Some people may not understand I think once they see the clowns & anemones together they may. I have a 40 gal right now, no fish yet & it's only been set up about 3 weeks but I may just go & get a 75 gal I'm not sure yet. :happyfish

hey,
i have a 100g with 250 total watts pc and acitinics. i have 3 long tentacle anemones one ive had for over a year but when i got him he was already bleached i didnt know about that when i bought him, however he is still alive. one is a big green one and a lil purple one. the other 2 anemones are RBTA's came as one split into 2 very red color.
so im confused because some say u need 4-5 watts per galon but i only have 2.5 and mine seem to be doing pretty good
i think if u have 120 watts ud be fine to have an anemone
anyone else?>
