I changed my mind on doing a reef tank, so my whole focus has changed. I have a new 90 gal with no lights yet, what does one recommend for a FOWLR. I would like to have fish with nice bright colors, what lights would bring out these colors in the fish...any info would be great...

48'' hood. Comes with bulbs too.
great lighting, colors, etc. you can also do shrooms/zoo's if you decide to with those lights.

even though it's FOWLR I would still go with a VHO set up as the colors of the fish will be enhanced by the VHO. You only really need a NO flourescent set up but a little extra $$ and you get a VHO and you then have the flexability to add some soft corals down the road if you want to.
Lot's of sources on the net for lighting systems or you could go the DIY route and just get a Workhorse 7 ballast for like $45 and some end caps $5, wire it yourself and have a nice 220w VHO set up for $50 - $55 plus cost of bulbs.

How many bulbs would you recommend using on a FOWLR set-up, also I saw a jbj compact 260w system, are they any good.

I would go a T5 retro I was at macna with one of the dist for them and we had a display and let me tell you they are bright and are a crisp white. If you run one atinic you would get the nice shimering colors too. T5 blows pc and VHO out of the water
