lighting for my 29 gallon

I have a 29 gallon tank with about 50 lbs of live rock in there along with 2 damsels. What kind of lighting system do I need if I am to progress in my reef tank by adding some clowns, pigmi angels and soft corals?
Also, is it ok to mix the different kinds of live rock together? The tank was a gift and had live rock already in it. When I added more live rock (figi) It looks different and more colorful. Is this ok or perhaps something to do with my lighting?
Most of the live rock is doing well but one piece is starting to turn white. Is that a bad thing?

You can mix about any kind of rock, it is all preference. As far as lighting, Three options
PCs Keep about all except SPS,clams and real high light corals
T5s Same as above with some clams and easier SPS
Metal Halides: Keep anything and you water will shimmer nicely.

pc- are power compacts(lighting)
sps- small polyp stony cora(highest end of lighting need for corals)
T5- more lighting
metal halides- highest lighting

I like the metal halide because you don't have to worry if your not getting enough light. A good rule of thumb to go by is getting anywhere from 4-6 watts of light per gallon. I have a 175 watt metal in a 35 gallon tank, and I run a 14K bulb. It gives it a little bit of a blue tint and the corals seem to like it. Plus you gotta love the shimmer of a metal.
