BUT.....
They are attracted to external lights to some degree. Makes it easier to collect them if you shine a light on the side of the culture container, then siphon the pods that gather on the glass near the light. That has been my experience when I used to culture pods, at any rate.

most pod culturing tanks don't have filtration, just a small airline on low.
