I''ve done a ton of research on my tank, skimmer, filter, lr, etc but the one thing I can't seem to figure out is lighting. I am hoping someone can help :)
I am going to be running a 50 gallon FOWLR system, I have no reason to believe I will be housing any coral.... ok, at least not for well over a year from the first day my fish go in :)
My system is set up to be reef safe and invert safe, etc so I do keep that in mind but.... I'm lost as to my needs for lighting
What do I need for a 50g (36x19x19) tank with a FOWLR system. I will have inverts in the tank.... I know how long to run the lights but I have no idea what to buy for a fixture....
Any help is greatly appreciated! Thanks!

your going to need a decent light fixture to get the coraline algea to grow on the live rock, thats what makes it "live". part of the biologicaol filtration process. you can go power compacts or mh. i have one of each and they are similar. the mh get the light deeper, are more expensive to replace and use more energy. pc just need to be changed a little sooner. all in its the same, depends on what you like and what you will do down the road. gl

Get the Nova Extreme 2 bulb T5 fixture if this will be a FOWLR.
Its right under $80 for a 36'' fixture.
Think long and hard, make sure corals aren't in your future. Its just wasting money buying a fixture now and six months later wanting a new fixture because corals interest you.In that case, look at the Nova Extreme Pro-36'' 234w T5-HO fixture with individual reflectors. That one will set you back $300
