I have a 55 gallon aquarium, with 8 65 watt power compacts, more in detail theres 4 10,000k coralife power compacts, 2 royal blue coralife power compacts, and 2 actinic coralife power compacts, which gives me a total of 520 watts and 9.45 watts per gallon. what are your opinions???

depends on what you are trying to keep. but i dont think thats overkill at all. maybe a waste of power being that you could get much more par out of a different type of light with much less wattage.

The only over kill there is the money you are spending on bulbs. If you want to be successful keeping corals with PC you will need to change them out about every 6 months or less.
If you are keeping fish only then yes that iw way over kill.
I suggest you find a MH or T-5 set up that will give you better lighting for your corals and in the long run probably save you money. JMO

agreed.
You're going to spend a fortune on bulbs and energy.
and no, that's not too much light. I had 3, 250 watt 14k metal halides over a 55gallon. Backed by four 54watt T5 retrofits. (Equipment is my passion)
