Lighting overkill for Frag tank?

Guys,
Moving my frag rack from my DT to a remote frag tank...wanted to keep it small...and not spend any money on new stuff.
Got a ~10g tank used for non-copper QT and a 175watt 16k MH bulb and ballast sitting around...Is it over kill?

I went ahead and built a hood with a fan ontop, and vents...which should dissapate most of the heat...and will have good flow rate, so i'm not overly concered about heat issues.
What i'm concered about is burning the corals...was going to go with only hard corals and some sps's.

Any issues you see here?

try it...if u see it start to burn add something in between the light and the tank to block some of the light

not overkill for corals (you could always raise the lamp anyway if needed). I'd be more concerned with excessive evaporation and elevated tank temps. You'll need any and/or all of the following to keep temps/evaporation in check: lamp raised appropriately high, fairly short light cycle and auto top off.

Have ato...and fans...should be in good shape.
Question about timing...I was going to go with A reverse light schedule, to help PH regulation.
but what about a 24/7 run of t8s and a reverse time schedule for MH...or does hard corals "need to go to bed"?

Now that’s something I would like to hear about…
I would guess they would bleach out too much light.

they need the rest. I dont know the details but the break is photosynthesis is needed or negative things start happening. there are supposedly some plants that can handle full time photosynthesis.

Your lighting is just fine. I have a 250w pendant over my big frag tank --- but its only 12 inches deep and nothing is being burned or shocked. You may have to light acclimate but for sps your just fine.
