Is 2x175 14k MH too much for a 29g tank ?

Not really, but a 29 gallon is only about 30 inches long. 1 175w bulb and a couple of VHO or PC actinics (for added color pop) would be plenty. You'd have trouble with heat with 2 bulbs over a tank that short and shallow, unless you kept them high up, which defeats the purpose.

I agree, 2 bulbs is too much. Each MH will light a 2'x2' area at the surface of the water. If you need more wattage, go for 250W instead of 2 bulbs.
What are you planning to keep in your 29g?

plan on keeping a little bit of everything ... just found a pretty good deal on 2x175 ...
guess I'll pass on it.
