Lighting Question

Hi all! I'm rather new to the hobby - 5 months. I've just purchased a used 250 that doesn't have lighting. It measures 61" L x 31" W x 32" H. My question is how do you determine the quanity of wattage you need? I've also bought a 180 that's 6' x 2' x 2' with 4 VHO's in it with 2 Icecap 660 ballast. Is that enough light from SPS and LPS corals?

I think with that lighting on a 180, you'd be looking at some mushrooms, polyps and possibly some softies.

Thanks. I don't plan on do much for stony's in the 180. The 250 is another story since it's so tall.
