Lighting question

I have a jbj pc on my tank that has that clear plastic splash shield. My question is that it gets salt creep all over it and makes it real hazey. Doesn't that cut down on the power of the light to the tank? I was thinking of mounting it up higher in my canopy. I have a foot tall canopy that eventually I'm going to put metal halides in. Also will the jbj still work if you pull them apart?

I have 125 with 1100 gph going through sump, and 4 1200 powerheads, 3 600's and 2 400's. I do not have any salt creep. If you keep air bubbles and splashing to a null you will lose the salt creep. I burn up about 1.5 gallons a day and still no salt creep for 4-6 months since i cut down on splashing.
