If you only want LR, sand and fish stick with what you have.
You can upgrade at any time.

yea, but i think you should upgrade your lights anyways... what you have right now seems a bit low. I have dual 250w MH and Dual vho 110w bulbs in mine.
A good place to buy things like this is ----. I paid only $325 for my set up, compared to $600+ at lfs or online retailers.

If you ever want to keep corals, certain inverts, or even good coralline algae growth, then you'll want to upgrade. Otherwise things will probably stay about the same way they are now with maybe some brown and green algae growth.

Your current lighting really should be ungraded, IMO. If you don't ever plan on getting corals or anemones, then I think you can get by with just normal florescents versus MH, VHO or PC. The one your lfs suggested don't sound too bad. But if you want to do the reef thing in the future. Then you should consider one or more of the three lighting options(MH, VHO, PC). Which one you choose will depend on what you want to keep. good luck on your decision.

For fish only you only need lighting for what is pleasing to the eye.
If you want to keep corals anenomies etc then you will definitley need to upgrade.
For people to say go out and buy Metal Halides anyway is complete nonesense. Buy them if and when you need them!!!

Why not build a hood and go with a 2 VHO setup. You can get an icecap 430 and 2 bulbs for a very reasonable price and it would be awesome lighting on a fowlr. If you decide to go reef later you already have you ballast just change the bulbs to both actinic and add the hallides or pick up another vho ballast cheap and add a couple more bulbs.

Go with Lobbstergrabbers idea. It makes alot of sense in the long run and you do not have to buy both at once that way.
