Lighting questions

My tank is done cycling, etc. I added the lights to the tank finally which are 2 blue VHO actinic, 1 white and 1 sun which is a 50/50. My tank is a 55 gallon. I only have some crabs in there to clean up some since there is some growth. I just added them last night along with the lights. I am wondering how long do I keep all of these lights on??? They are hooked up with the same plug so I think all 4 have to be on at all times....what should I do??? Thanks!

Consider getting a timer that will automatically turn your lights on and off. Keeping them on too long can lead to nuisance algae growth. I keep mine on for 10 hours a day.

I have a timer but just didn't set it up yet...so how do you have it turn off and on???
How long are the lights on for at each time?

Every timer is a little different. The ones I use have little pegs that slip into slots at the time of day you want to have the lights turn on or off. My lights come on at 11 am and go off at 9 pm.

Okay, thanks so much! I just am trying so hard not to mess anything up and was really patient with the cycle I will try 11-9, again, thanks!!

Mine are on from 11 to 9 because that allows me to see the tank for several hours after I get home from work during the week. Set yours for a time frame that works best for you... the length of time the lights are on is more important that the time of day that they turn on and off. Good luck!
