Lighting quick question

Just found out that the crappy light i have should not be used for saltwater tanks, and needs a hood for safety. So i need a new light. I currently have no cover, its just open. I saw a pond mesh idea on here that i think i might use, is there any other easy ways to make a cover.
Also i need a new light...
So i was wondering any suggestions for a lighting system. 38 gallon tank, FO maby FOWLR if i get to the LFS soon. But eventually FOWLR. What would be a good lighting system....
Im not thinking about coral for this tank.... so ya...

You do not need special light if you don't have corals. They only reason you would pick special light is if you wanted more color range or light for the fish. You can use pond mesh or eggcrate as a cheap top unless you have an eel, octopus, or some other escape artist. They can get out unless it is weighted.
