I have just upgraded my lighting from 80W NO to 220W VHO!!!
I am cutting my lighting schedule back a little until the fish get used to the brighter light.
My lighting plan is to eventually get to this:
10A Actinics On
12P Daylights On
8P Daylights Off
10P Actinics Off
Is 2 hours too long for the sctinic only? Do I need it that long?
Is 8 hours okay for the daylights?
I may adjust the on/off times an hour later, but is a total of 12 hours lighting okay?
I am going to upgrade on up to 440W three months or so down the road. That way I will be able to replace 2 bulbs every 3 months rather than 4 bulbs every 6.

IMO you don't need to cut back the lights for the fish. They will just usually hide a little more for a couple days. I would normally cut back lighting schedule to acclimate corals to the lighting but not fish. Just think, when you take a fish home from the lfs, you are changing the tank lighting its been in, but we usually do an acclimation of an hour or so depending on the fish and they adapt fine. Just my opinion but I think if you want to keep your lighting schedule full it would not be a problem.
