just switched from my 55 gallon to my 110 gallon about a month ago, and im shopping for lights. im still using my 48'' lights from my 55. im wanting to keep soft corals, lps, and maybe some easier sps. my tank is 21'' deep, and 72'' long, but i dont have the big money for metal halides. i was looking at the 72'' current usa nova extreme 12x39 watts. i havent seen to many options on 72'' lighting so any ideas will help. THANKS!

I've been actually wondering the same thing for my 125. Does your 110 have the divider down the middle? I've got 2 30 inch coralife lights just sitting on mine, but I wonder if 2 30 inch metal halides would be able to work with legs?

I just went to MH lights i know they are expensive but i'll never go back to anything else but MH lights. i got mine off of craigslist. I would love to buy a new one but i just cant afford it but i plan on the upgrade soon.

I would really like to keep it under $300 if at all possible, I know that's asking a lot. And no canopy. I found a place where I could get 2 30 inch metal halides for $120 a piece plus shipping. It comes with 1 MH 250 watt 15000k and 4 bluemoon LED. Would this be enough light for my 125? And do you think they would both fit on my tank with their leg mounts?

You could use the hanging kits that they have either hanging them from the ceiling or using the metal stand mounts that are in the shape of a cane lol. Thats a really good deal!!! Can you point me in the direction of where to get one for myself at 120???

There's also a combination with 4x24 watt T5's also...$199 plus free shipping...kinda think that may be the best bet.

Ya know...me neither. I don't have a fortune to spend...but yet, I don't want to buy crap like I've been talked into buying before either. There has to be a middle ground!

Look used. There are always people getting out of the hobby. My brother just left me two mh before he left for Guam. Canopies are easy to make just take apart your current lights and mount them inside the new canopy with a few mh lamps. Put your difficult coals under the mh area. One light two lights etc. There are diagrams on here for DIY canopies

Can I tag along btwk? since I too have a 6 footer tank and need help on select the light. I saw some thing named odyssea MH light 72" for $489. Is it gonna to work???? thank you.

Yes MH lights are deff the way to go as far as reef tanks. They do produce alot of heat so make sure you can dissipate the heat with a small fan. Two small pendants would be good for a large tank OR one MH light the entire length with the built in actinic T-5's. There are alot of options. I bought mine used cause i cant afford a new one right now.

Sorry btwk for hijack your thread. Mell, I think I was looking at the same one that you look at, 30" 250W for $120 + $25.95 shipping. If you need two, the total would be $292. ANd I ran accross the 72" 1134W at $489 + no shipping. I do not know which way is better. If the 2@30" look good in the 6 footer tank, then that would be my pick, but what if it won't fit? Please let me know your thoughts every one. This will help all of us here to pick the right lights. Thanks again.

Yeah, there were also the 30" with the build in T5's for $199 + free shipping. And 2 30's fit on my tank now, but they're not on leg mounts, so that's what I'm worried about. And my husband won't let me hang them from the ceiling.
