OKay.........at first I plan on havinga fish only and then I was going to upgrade to a reef. I definitely know that the crappy strip light that comes w/ the tank can't be used for reef, but can it work on a fish only?

yes....FO have no where near the lighting requirements of a reef. Are you gonna have LR? What is size of tank and wattage of light?

a fish only tank could be okay without any light. So the strip light will be fine. But, if you are going to have live rock now id get better lighting. There are things that come on the rock that are going to need the extra light.

Thanks, yeah I wasn't going to have liverock until I upgraded lighting. I knew that the light couldn't support it. Back to the first reply, its a 55 gal and a forty watt strip light from all glass. Thanks for the info, I never heard any light guideline for FO.
