Lighting types

So i'm probably going to go with t-5s for my 55 gallon tank and i'm looking at either tek's or Aquactinics. So I'm wondering how many bulbs to go with the 4, 5, or 6 bulb. I'm probably going to try and keep some sps. Also what type of bulbs should i get to go with the lighting? Oh and how does everyone cover their tanks to keep other pets out and their fish in for those that like to jump? Thanks!

I have the 6 bulb TEK fixture on my 75 and I really dont think that it would fit over a 55. The whole fixture is about 15 inches deep and it would hang over the edges of a 55. The 4 bulb TEK or the 5 bulb Aquatinics should be perfect on the 55.

i have the TEK 6 bulb set up on my 55 gallon and it actually is perfect. the bulbs are exactly 12 inches deep. the entire set up is 15 inches but that is 1.5 inches on each side of just metal.
