Lighting upgrade question

I would like to upgrade my lighting so that I can keep a wider variety of things like corals. What should I get? My tank has the original lighting on it. the bulb is 23 1/2" long and the fixture is apx 28 1/2" long. Can I just change to bulb? Or do I need to add a whole new fixture? I really dont understand what VHO, ballast, and all that is. So if you could spell it out for me i'd appreciate it!!! :D :confused:

Very high output=== VHO.
It looks just like what you have but puts out more light, it's much brighter.
It also works the same. If you take apart your fixture, you will see a bulb, end caps that hold the bulb, a ballist that fires up the bulb and the cord to plug it in. It the same with VHO fixtures.
Being brighter, corals that need more light to live can be kept.
Changing your bulb will not give you the more light your looking for. Their are many places that sell kits that you can put into your fixture to replace what you have. If your not good with that sort of thing or dont know an electrician, you can buy a fixture pre-made.
