Can anyone tell me if this would be a good choice for lighting on a tank or not ? is it possibly not long enough for the tank and the light needs to be evenly distributed through the tank ?

The ones you are looking at do not come with the light or bulb, You could easly spend another $200 on bulbs and fixtures.
