Ok so Ive been looking into getting some new lights for my 55 gal because I want to start a reef tank and my friend has quit the hobby and is parting out his 75 gal and has 2 150W metal halides with 20000K XM bulbs. These lights are retrofit and I was going to build my own canopy for them. So my question is, would these lights be sufficient for me to have what ever I want in my tank? The tank is about 18" deep i believe. Thanks

you will be fine with the 150s over your 55. i would however maybe get a little lower k rating and supplement with some vho or pc for actinics. you will normally (with most lamps) get a little better par out of a lower k bulb.

I have a 72g bowfront w/ 300w of lightning. However isnt 300w of light, 300w of light??? What might be difference between Power Compacts, T5, MH and so on???
(They are 12k.)
Im asking this, 'cause I think that PC's are more efficient, yet durable than say, MH. Am I right???
Thanks

Im not exactly sure, so correct me if im wrong, but I think that the difference is the intensity of the light or the spectrum.
