Ifg you want higher light corals, i recomend using VHO--- people kept telling me this, i finally broke down and went for it- got an icecap ballast and built my own light hood with a vinyl gutter-- looks great and the tank look way better. still using the other 40 watts that i started with, but just until we can buy the other 2 lights, end caps, etc. kinda on a budget- doing a little at a time.

We are using 3 vho lights on our 55. I can keep any soft corals, and several hard w/ no problem. I really like mine a lot. The 46.5" bulbs fit the best into a homemade canopy, icecap ballast, 660, uri bulbs (have reflectors in them) w/ one fan.

I would recommend vho's to everybody who does not have them.I swithed over to a ice cap 660 with 3 uri actnics and 1 coralife super daylight I'm using coralifes end caps and love them to.They are easier to use than any other end cap I'v seen.
I just bought another 660 and mh kit from my lfs.We are up grading to a 3 foot by 3 foot by 18 and I'm going to run all 8 vho's and the mh on it.We are going to have each side set up differant.Kind of like a scene for each one.She wants alot of soft corals and I want sps and stony.Hav'nt really figured it out to a T yet but it will come soon enough.
