So Ive decided to upgrade my lights on my 37 gal reef. Right now I have soft corals in it: xenia, mushrooms, zoos, green stars, yellow polyps, colt, leather and some ricordea. Im thinking of changing the tank over to more of an SPS tank...what should I do for lighting?
I have a 175w 10000K MH that im going to use, and im thinking of adding PCs. How many watts? Actinic or 50/50?

a 175W MH woudl work awesome! and as many PC bulbs as you could get on there, pack as much light as you caa, as long as you can cowap with heat.

I have two 96watts power quads and two other actinic 03 PC's in my 37 gallon. I also have shrooms, ricordeas, green star polyps, two kinds of xenias and a BTA and they are doing just fine. Just add a fan to cool the light down otherwise you will have heat problems.

Or if you don't already have the pc's try to get some t5 bulbs instead. They put out much more usable light than a pc bulb.

as far as addinal lighting i would just go with some blues just to drop the yellow a MH puts out. but the MH should be enough.

why not get a 14k or a 20k MH bulb then if addition light will be a problem, i love my Hamilton 14k and whithout suppliments they are white

If your using a 175w MH, I would stay away from the 20K bulbs. They are very dim and low in PAR.

I have a hamilton 175 W bulb on there now, and it actually looks kinda blue, even though it says 1000K. I was thinking of putting the PC bulb on...getting a retrofit from AHsupply, probably a 55w Actinic. My biggest concern is the depth of the 37 gal...but then again, i guess 55 and bigger are just as deep, if not deeper....
