I have a 75 gallon and I am using the coral life light lighting, which has 4 moon lights, 10000k and actinitc. I put the brackets that came with it and the canopy will not fit on the aquarium. I have a smaller set of brackets that I bought. Should I use them?

If the other brackets dont work, can I just take them off completely? where the lights will fit right up against the glass versa top?

depending on the amount of heat the fixture produces, i don't think i would want it right against the glass.
the coralife fixture. is it a metal halide/pc combo, or just power compacts?

Well by your original post I can't tell what you have either
Coralife sells alot of different fixtures.
I just bought the coralife aqualight pro w/ 4 LEDS, 10000k and actinics and mine is a MH. My light wouldn't fit on my tank either (55gal) so I ordered the suspension kit that Coralife sells. It suspends the light from the ceiling and it says it works on the aqualight Pro or Plus.

Before I upgraded to MH's I had the same light and problem as you. With legs nothing fit under the canopy. I went to home depot and bought two 2" PVC caps that are flat on the end. You can find the caps in the sprinkler and piping section. I think they were about a buck and a half each. Either glue them to your splash guard or just set your light setup on them spaced and it did the trick for me. Good Luck

Please read my original post with the lights, they are NOT metal hallide.
yep...you cannot tell from your initial post anything other than the color temperature of the bulbs in your fixture.

Sorry, I will look. I didn't want to come off like a smart a@#. I just thought that was the name Coral Life Deluxe Lunar Series 53409 model?

i tried to do a search for your fixture and came up short. how many bulbs are in your fixture, and what wattage are they?
it should say it right on the bulb.

If its 65w then its PC lighting. (Compact Flouresent aka Power Compact) Not terrible as far as heat goes, but too hot to put them right on the glass without some sort of risk involved.
Small blocks or stand offs will prevent any harm done by direct heat transfer. Many will say they have run PC lighting directly on the glass without issue. Its a once in a blue moon that it could hurt something.
That being said- the moment I tell you to do it, it cue the blue moon to come out and make me look like a sphincter for telling to do so.
