IMO Metal Halide is best, BUT in a 55G I think you could also use T5HO, as long as you get the right ones.....I am not a light expert, but I believe they have to have reflectors, and for a 55G...hmmm...I think 6 bulbs at least
my 29G has 4....

Four individually reflected T5ho will let you keep WHATEVER you want. Try to stick with better brand bulbs like ATI, Geisemann, and UVL.

Glad to hear that...I wasn't sure, and THOUGHT I read that you needed 6 when you started getting bigger..
I personally love my T5HO's on my 29G

Look for a Nova Extreme pro T5 fixture. About the lowest priced fixture of decent quality if you want to be able to have a variety of corals.

I just got the Current USA Nova Extreme Pro T5 Aquarium Lighting Fixture, 6X39 Watt, 36 inch for $280, and I am happy with it so far.
