Like to fly?

Nobody except employees should be allowed in the towers. This is simply ridiculous!! Fire their a$$es as well as the pilots who thought this was "cute".

I dunno seemed pretty cool to me. Seriously what is the big deal about it. I remember visiting on of our neighbors who was an air traffic controller, and he offered to let me talk on the radio. (I was 5 and too much of a chicken to do it).

If something happened to go wrong during any of these flights could you imagine the legal consequences for all involved?? Passengers as well as controllers. Saying Hi captain, have a nice flight is cool (although I feel kids shouldn't be on the radio at all) There is no way in hell they should be giving flight directives!!

My uncle is a controller. I agree that it should "be against the rules" for the kid to talk on the radio, but what happened wasn't a big deal. If the father had left the kid on his own playing on the radio, that is serious. Having him call out a couple instructions, for a minute, with Dad standing over his shoulder, isn't a big deal. The only people that should have been upset with this, is the pilots, but they seemed fine with it.

IIRC that would have been handled by a different controller that would have gotten any emergencies. From the article it sounds like he was controlling the departing flights. Any problems with flights in the air, or incoming flights would have been handled by someone else.

Sounded to me like they were cool with it. Obviously the dad was sitting right there telling him what to do.

The pilots being "fine with this", upsets me too.

YEAH...there are some places that "outside" people should not be allowed....kids or not
Makes you wonder do pilots take their kids in the cockpits....who would know
(I know that's kinda far-fetched...but still)

When I was little, they let me go see the cockpit while in flight, but at that point they'd leave the doors open half the time anyway.

I miss those days too. Plus getting wings as a kid was fun.

This says it all...
"The FAA offered scant detail on its investigation and wouldn't reveal the name of the controller or supervisor. Control towers are highly secure areas, although the agency does sometimes give employees permission to bring their children for a tour."
Now that people are complaining, the FAA is suspending the controller, for no reason.
I see nothing wrong with this and it reminds me of the days of "bring your kids to work" day. My dad was a high ranked union rep, for Illinois and it was awesome for me, to go with him to meetings, etc.
I've also been flying for pretty much my entire life...since I was 14. I see nothing wrong with a few instructions being given, to pilots, by a child...especially when dad was right there, to take over at any given second. I remember being aprox 5 years old and a family friend putting me on his lap and letting me fly a 12 passenger Cesna.
If I was one of the pilots, I'd have gotten a kick out of it, too.

In the late 80's one of my mom's cousins tried to get me in as a controller. Got all the info from the school you have to go through in OK and decided against it. If the stress levels are even half as bad as they claim there should never be kids or other distractions in the tower, period.
