Hi everyone, I have had my saltwater tank for about 4months now and there is a bunch of bright green algae all over my rocks and in the walls. I tried to scrapping the rocks but no luck. Is there anything I can do to stop this green algae from continuing to grow? Thanks in advance for the help.
Tank size: 180g
Using RO water

thats coralline algae, its good (because nuisance algae cant grow over it) but the green can be a bit unsightly. do you want to remove it because it doesnt look good or because you thought it was bad? you could scrub the rocks with a (new, clean!) wire brush and scrape the walls with a razor if you still want to remove it.

Both. I thought it was bad and it doesn't look good. The walls are easy to clean but the rocks on the buttom of the tank is a bit hard. How long will it be until this green coralline algae stops? Should I clean it or leave it if it's ok for the tank? Thanks for all your help.

it doesnt really stop. lowing your calcium levels a bit may help subdue it, but once it starts it really takes off. a lot of us actually stress about our tanks not growing purple coralline. really unless you want to tear your tank apart to get to it at the bottom i would just leave it, if that is they only color you have growing you could go to your LFS and buy a chunk of LR that has some different colors growing on it, so at least that way you have some variety.

thanks. I'll just leave it. I did hear about a ph sponge/pad to use on the filter that will stop this green algae from growing? Have you heard of this?

you may have heard about a phosphate sponge, which removes phosphates from your water. this helps in controlling nuisance algae but not coralline. im not aware of any products designed specifically to remove/kill/hinder the growth of coralline.

I love the lime green coralline color. I added a LR with a little green on it about two weeks ago and I can already see the color showing up in other places around the tank
.
Some dont like it some love it, just a mater of taste I guess........not that i have tasted the coralline..... well ok just once but it was a accident....um...ya.

i have purple, dark red, dark green, and lime green. i liked the darker red and purple the most until the lime green really started taking off. it's a nice contrast to the fish and corals in my tank.

Thanks for all the info. I'll keep you posted if anything changes. I'm new to this and there's lots of things that I'm not sure of that I'll be questioning.
Thanks,
Andre
