Some blennies are notorious coral "slurpers". The are just really after the slimer that the coral is releasing (they can do the same to clams). If anything, I would be REALLY surprised if it was effecting ANY area but where he was slupring.
well this is the main thing dwarf angels are after as well, the problem is they keep things closed or from polyp extension from the constant pestering.

I'm not to sure about this one. Most dwarf angels house the enzymes in their digestive tract to break down actual coral flesh. I don't know of a single blenny that does. If you put each in a tank with a HUGE sps coral, the angels stomach should be filled with coral flesh (if it is a nipper) while the blennies will most likely just be filled with mucus (if it is a nipper).

I had a redlip blenny that I loved and he never bothered any sps. he was another victim of my murderous stone crab.

Yeah I had to return a flame angel for "eating" my acro polyps. It wasnt just the flesh, the actual polyp would be gone with nothing but a hole left.

there are probably some of both. I know I've had ones that picked on corals but never actually killed or ate them while I see some others have those that have ate corals. I do know certain fleshy corals like open brain they are known to feed off the mucus.
