What is your pH and alkalinity?
In this case, floating it was pointless if it went in a bucket for several hours if the bucket is not insulated. Just for future reference
A lot of acclimation shock is done before the hobbyist ever gets the star.
Basically this is a time will tell. In the PM and above I mention you can cut off the "melting" part...which may or may not help. But I would not return it...the only hope it has is to stay in the same tank.
