Lion Fish Died

My fuzzy dwarf lion died last night and I'm not sure why.
He ate fine around 2PM and then around 10PM I noticed him lying upside down on the bottom of the tank. I got him several months ago when he was just over an inch and he grew to around 6 inches. My water parameters are as follows....
amonia......0
nitrite.......0
nitrate......11
salinity....1.024
temp.......78
Any ideas?????

They don't do well unless put in a well establised tank. So how long was your tank up before you introduced the lion? By the way, sorry about your loss.

He grew from 1 inch to 6 in several months???!!! It's possible that he died from overeating. Lionfish need time between feedings now and then to digest their food fully. Otherwise, food that stays in the gut begins to rot the fish away from the inside out.

up by over feeding?????
I've tried to research on this site and other sites on how to care for my fish as they are a joy and learning experience to me and my family. As some people on this site have known I research and geniuanly try to make the right decisions and properly care for my fish. If I've messed up, I'm sorry and I'll just have to learn more before I try again.

Well, feeding every 3rd day is actually quite appropriate. What and how much did you feed? Also, what size is the tank and what are the other inhabitants?
Very sorry for your loss, BTW. You obviously care.

Have you checked for stray voltage? Your tank conditions look perfectly appropriate for a lion. What did he eat?

I fed him a mix of silversides, shrimp, squid, and clams. i usually fed until I would notice a slight bulge in his belly. He was allways a begger though. The tank is 150G, and tankmates are snowflake eel, blue tang, and foxface.

Everything you say you've done is spot-on, but I still find it hard to believe that the fish grew that fast with the way you fed.
You didn't see any aggression from the other fish (ie the eel) did you?
