Lion Fish?? Do's and Dont's?

Hi, im in the process of cycling my tank, I have a 55 gal tank with 4" DSB and 25lbs of live rock. I currently have three damsels in there and my amonia is on its way down. Almost untraceable. Nitrites are at 10 and Nitrates at 0. Do you think it would be ok to add a small Lion Fish to the tank? I know it would probably eat the damsels if it is much bigger but thats ok. I just want a Lion Fish and wondered if they are very hearty fish or if they are more like a Tang and cant add til the cycle is fully complete. Thanks for any information!

No, it would not be a good idea to add anything to a cycling tank, it will most likley die :(

They great to have but read all the info you can on the board, wait till your tank cycles and then still use a QT. I see more people having more problems with there tanks cause their impatient or dont spend $30 to buy a QT, so they end up spending alot more and their fish still die. IMO make the investment and be patient. Bill

please wait til your tank is complketely cycled! But then DO get a lionfish if you want one. I had a lionfish and i really enjoyed it. dont bother with a dwarf lion, IMO, i tried two and both kicked. Small theyll eat frozed brine shrimp and little pieces of regular shrimp, then as they get larger i do mean larger, they can eat feeder goldfish or whole shrimp. I had mine for three years and when he spread for a meal his spines would touch the sides of my 55gal tank. AWESOME
Good Luck!

Wait for your tank to cycle, but lion fish are the best!! I have had mine for about 4-5 years. I got him at 2 inches, he is at least 8 now. But they get big fast adn boy does he eat a lot!!!
