I take a thawed silverside and wiggle it on the top of the water until my lion sees it. Then I make him chase it a little... He always takes it from my hand.... Just be patient.... It only took me about 2 days to get mine to take silver sides from my hand.

You may want to start with some live ghost shrimp just to get him eating. You can "gut load" the shrimp by feeding them (shrimp) some food that you would want the lion to eat. Once he has an appetite then do as Pumper just said.

I tried the wiggling, he comes to it but doesn't take it. As for the stick also tried it , well depending on what type of stick, tried a bamboo scure, but same he puts his nose up to it. Should I wait until he is really hungry?? I read were young lions need there food , due to the energy they use. How long should I wait ?? without feeding???

Once he sees it and come up to sniff it, pull it away while keeping it in the water.... It makes him think the prey is running away. It also simulates the actions of something getting chased by a predator.... The lion can go for days without feeding.

go to the grocery store and get some frozen or fresh squid, and cut it into long strips. Put the squid on a feeding stick, and leave a long "tail" on it, most lions can't resist this, they love squid.

IMHO I wouldn't.
LIONS get used to live and then refuse to eat anything else. I had one that starved because I did this and then tried to get him to convert. Get a feeding stick and make him chase it a little.

Bottom line, IMO. If you're still feeding him live food after he refuses dead; he'll wait for the live. Lions can easily go several days or longer without food. If he refuses the "fake-live-on-a-stick" food; let him wait, then try tomorrow. It isn't unusual for lions to take a week to start eating what you offer.

BTW, if this is a black volitan, and your profile is correct; he'll outgrow your 55 very quickly. These guys grow faster than any fish I know of and can easily reach 12"+ in no time. Not over feeding will slow growth; but that isn't as easy as it sounds. Once acclimated, he should look healthy, but should always be hungry.

As far as feeding stick, see if your LFS has those long clear plastic feeding sticks. They can still see the stick, but it's not as imposing.

Hey thanks for the help from everyone, I was finally successful stick feeding my Black lion..It was weird , I put the food on the stick , and put it right in front of his face, he actually opened his mouth and allowed me to set it in. That 1st taste is all it took.... It took 2 days of not eating , and a little annoying pushing of the food by me . But now he is almost jumping out of the tank for food.
My next question is how much is enough?? He is always hungry.... even with a extended belly???
Again Thanks to all.......
