lion fish not eating

I bought a dwarf lion 3 days ago. The guy at the store told me to feed live feeder guppies or frozen brine shrimp. He told me to strave the fish for 2 days if I am feeding the brine shrimp. Well, the fish is not eating. What should I do?

Dwarf fuzzies are hard to get to eat. I would stick to live food for now. Either live ghost shrimp or feeder guppies are yer best bet. Not the helathiest alternative, but its good to keep it alive. Ghost shrimp are good, better than guppies, but guppies are more filling. Wat you should work on is establishing that you are the food source. Once it figures that out, you can stat offering feeder guppies, and a pieve of frozen food. It might start taking to frozen. Soon, it will nail anything you put into the water. So, grab some guppies, get it eating,t hen start on the slow trail to frozen food. Once it DOES notice that you are the food source, then purchase some frozen silversides. These look more like guppies. Put those in with some live food, and see if it grabs it. Once it does get the taste for frozen, then you can start feeding it chopped squidd, mysid shrimp, krill. ANy more questions, just ask.

Thanks for the info. It's very helpful. Just one more question. Feeding guppies, which is fresh water, wouldn't that be incompatible for marine fish?

Well, it isnt totally natural, but it i pretty much yer best option for now. Live Ghost shrimp are better, but they are less filling and such.

I agree w/Chandler. Feed your Lion guppies or ghost shrimp first. Once he's taking that you can try to put in prepared food. I just weaned my Dwarf Lion recently:D and now he's eating frozen krill. You might want to try and put the prepared food where there's current. He'll be more interested. It'll just take some time to wean him over. It took me almost a month to wean mine and he'll only take it if the food is moving around in the current. Good Luck

Paul- Like everyone has said the key is to get these lions established and happy in your tank, then worry about weanin them onto dead foods. So ghost shrimp are your key, if you live near the ocean then you can sieve for food, otherwise ghost shrimp, Guppies are a much less attractive alternative. But useable. I personally don't liek them as they don't survive very lon gin Sqw and usuall swim near the surface, where lion fish aren't. Hence my love of ghost shrimp. Infact here in H-town, we have a few LFS that sell SW ghost shrimp. works great.

Thank you all for the valuable advice. I just came back from the fish store. They said the lion fish I bought were fed with frozen krill. So I bought a pack....and the fish shows absolutely no interest. So tomorrow I will buy the feeder guppies.
Hope it won't starve to death.

They told u it was eating krill? Like, it was in the store, feasting upon krill daily? Never believe the lfs, come here first. Yu shoulda just gotten the guppies. Umm, it will survive Im hoping. If it doesnt, ill be sad.
But I think that they can go for a while w/o food, though it isnt healthy...

Bought both ghost shrimps and guppies. The lion ate both! What a relief. The lion immediately became more active. It probably swam more last night after the feast than it had in the past 4 nights.

Well, lol, animals tend to gather energy from the food that they eat, thus enabling them to move and live.
Im happy to hear it, though. Very happy indeed. Im sad cuz my lfs doesnt get in ghot shrimp like EVER, and the ones they did get in they were trying to sell as pets???:notsure: LOL. So, you got a plan on how itll eat frozen food? Also, post a pic of it, with the fins mostly, and Ill tell ya if its a boy or girl. A body length pic would be best. And... This is my 1000th POST!! YAY!

Thanks for you help again Chandler. No plan on how to convert the lion to dead food yet. Another friend suggests to feed live food for one month and than starve it for one week before feeding krill. Let me contemplate a bit first....
I will try to post a pic of the lion soon.

Starvation works sometimes, but definitely not for a week, maybe 4 days at the most, but not a whole week, thats just wrong. And dont start with krill, start with food that looks like the stuff it had been eating, like mysid shrimp or silversides, even frozn ghost shrimp if its out there. I wuld LOVE to see a pic, an dill let u know... BOY or.. GIRL???
