My fuzzy is in a 24g and has been in that (and actually smaller) for the past 3-4 years. The tank has some macro and a little LR in the back part (JBJ nano) and that's all that is required for mine filtration-wise. I actually don't have any water quality issues, I'd honestly tell ya if I did.
I agree. I just moved my zebra into the 55 tonight. He has been in my 20 QT for almost two months. He had way more than enough room. I moved him because a fuse blew that went to that outlet. I knew it had on the bathroom, but I have two. I noticed the power was out on that outlet many hours after it had happened. The only issue is water quality with lions, you have to be sure to test your tank, especially if the tank is new. They don't require a lot of room at all. They are happy with caves to explore, and hang out in during the day, and a nice meal. I feed my two every day. They don't have to be fed that much though. I was feeding frozen (defrosted w/ vitamins) krill to the zebra in QT. The fuzzy is in the display, with the hawk in my avatar, and inverts. I drop the formula food in front of him. He eats the bulk of it. The others get the rest. I would go with a Fuzzy in a 30. They take awhile to grow, and do very well. Don't put a lion into a new tank though. You can have another fish in there if you upgrade later.
