Lion Fish Tank Mate

As long as the fish is about the same size as the lio, it should be fine?
OR as long as the Lion can't open his mouth that big to swallow the fish?

Yep, the fish has to be bigger than the lion's mouth will get and do the lionfish a favor and do not get a triggerfish. Try to get a fish that can stand up to the lion without actually picking on it. Enjoy! Lionfish are one of my very favorite fish.

Hmm, how about a nice sized wrasse?
Perhaps a nice plump clown? I had a tomato clown with my lion. He was a feisty little guy. Just don't get anything like a goby or any shy peaceful fish. Have you looked at that chart that shows compatibility? That may help.

I'm sorry. The chart was from another website. I looked it up though and it said they are compatible with foxface los, groupers, eels and large angels. I guess thats a good place to start. Do a little research on some of those. But other people will chime in to tell you about their personal compatibility experiences. Like I said, I had a large tomato clown and they were fine together. Have Fun.

I've kept a Volitan Lion and a Niger Trigger in the same tank with no problems at all. As long as they each have their own room and are not fighting for the same food.

My opinion is that sooner or later, the trigger will attack the lion. I think they should never be put in the same tank.

Depends on the size of your tank. Normally as long as they have their own space and the other fish is large enough they should be fine. I also heard larger Wrasse will be fine.
