a little off topic but wanted to add this funny experience i had at my lfs.. they have a big lionfish there.. and he loves to stick his whole head out of the tank, as if he wants to be petted like a dog.. lol.. like he is temping people to touch him.... is that normal??
i swear to god! he sticks about 4" out of the water and scoots across the top like a dolphin

from all my past experiances with my lions they get very tame i had one who has now since pasted but he was as big aroun as a basketball , fins incl,, i raised him from a lil guy 2-2 1/2 inches .as soon as i would get home he would rush to the front or the tank stick his head out and wiggle his fins just like a lil dog .lol I know he was just being a beggar for something to eat but i would pat the top of his head and he loved the attention ..but i don't recommend petting your lion fish .lol because even by accident if he bumps you it does sting and burn and numb your arm depending on how much poison is injected...

If it is a V. Loin, he will soon outgrow your tank, as they get to be 15" in length. They would not even be able to turn aaround in a 55.
Lions are most oftenly called the dogs of the fish tank, because they act like them. Theyre a great addition to any tank.
