Hello,
Thanks for the help in advance. So much to know in this hobby.
So i have a mild to moderate Aiptasia issue and i want to purchase some peppermint shrimp to combat this issue. I'm afraid my current fish might have an issue with the shrimp.
My current stock is as follows

  • Foxface

  • Dwarf Lionfish
    Diamond Goby
100G Tank
Corallife T5's
Thanks again!

you are better off either trying to zap them all with aptasia x or maybe a copperbanded butterfly.... shrimp if you get maybe 40 or so they could do some good before being eaten...

Is there a limitation on how big of aiptasia the copperbanded will eat?
In my experience....The copperband is a maybe kind of aptasia eater. If the fish will nip at coral, it usually will eat the aptasia and nip at it...but if the fish is not nipping coral, they usually won't nip aptasia either.

Copperbanded butterflies may eat aptasia, but your foxface also ihas been known to consume aptasia, but it isn't happening in your tank. Time of the aptasia-X, or just some kaklwasser injections. I accidentally found out a few weeks ago that a brief sudden drop in salinity also kills aptasia pretty efficiently, but nobody in the tank was terribly happy with that solution, and many of my corals have not yet fully recovered.

In terms of eating appies, a big factor in whether CBB's will do so has to do with where the fish came from. Fish from the IO tend to be better at it than those from the Reds Sea, and the fish from Australia pretty much won't touch them at all, but tend to eat prepared foods very well.
Peps are kinda the same in that wild caught (WC) specimens that are hungry and aren't fed much tend to do very well with them, while the captive bred (CB) shrimp...not so much. One thing you can do since the peps will likely be toast in your tank (AKA fuzzy food), is take a rock or two at a time and place them in a bucket of SW with an airline for a few days...that way, the peps pretty much HAVE to eat the appies or they will starve (don't count on the huge appies to be eaten).
Finally, be sure you have Lysmata wurdemanni (true peppermint shrimp) and not L. californicus or Rhynchocinetes durbanensis (camel shrimp), as these won't eat appies.
