Lionfish & Cleaner Shrimps

I have decided to get a Volitian Lioinfish for my 75 gallon that I will be setting up over the weekend, however are cleaner shrimp ok in tanks with Volitans? I know inthe past the eels that I have had completely ignored the shrimp, unless he he was coming for services..

the chances of the shrimp being allowed to service the lion are slim to none.

the cleaner shrimp will become an expensive lunch, and a volitan will outgrow a 75 gallon tank within a year. For that size tank I would consider a dwarf, or radiata unless you plan on upgrading in the near future. A fully grown volitan will be about the size of a basket ball, heres a pic of mine, he bought him at 4-5" about 18 months ago, he is now pushing 13"

The 180 Gallon is going up in May/June. :). Just have to figure out what to put in it, cause it will be an agressive tank.

I've seen one get eaten by a volitan. The shrimp had its claws up and was trying to get the lion's attention to clean him then the lion just swam over and ate it.

Then get the Volitans in June/July. A lot can happen in 6 months that its generally not the best idea to assume your going to have X upgraded tank at Y time.

I've had a Lionfish and a cleaner shrimp in the same tank for quite awhile....and the shrimp does service the lionfish...guess it just depends on the fish...
