Lionfish huge underside "bump"

My v. lion has a pretty big bump on its underside and am wondering if its good or bad, I noticed it last night after feeding. He doesn't look stressed or anything. "bump" looks a little bigger than what it looks in the picture. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

I have only had my current lion for a few days but both this one and the one i had before would get bumps in their bellies when they would eat to much. I did read though that lions will eat to much at one time then the food would spoil in their guts so i would feed smaller more frequent meals as apposed to larger fewer meals.

I feed Mon. Wed. Fri.
I feed until #1 - they stop, #2 - it looks painful to me and I start to get heartburn from looking at it or #3 - they ate the platter clean.... I'm not thawing out anymore!
Yes, food can rot in their stomach if they are being fed too frequently so they don't have time to digest or from being fed too big a food item. I feed many pieces of smaller food items verses fewer chucks of larger food items. This is what is found in their bellies in the ocean.... many smaller prey items. The more you get to know your individual fish, the more you will learn what he needs.

I'm definately going to stick to your method of feeding Cranberry. I think I know the answer to this but what happens if food does rot in their stomach?

the fish bloats, floats, and dies. this is also a big problem with anglers.

Some very nasty bubbles come from the fish.

My Lion has look like that many many times. usually after I feed him heavy. Well, by heavy I mean big stuff, shrimp, goldfish feeders etc etc. He has eaten 5-6 feeders at once on mnay ocassions and I have had no problems. I have had him almost 6 years. He started about 1 1/2 inches long and wide and now he is about 7 inches long and when fins spread probably 8-9 inches wing span. In fact I am thinking of trading him soon, his bio-load is huge !
Hope it goes well ! I love those fish and everyone that comes over is always like WOW !!!!!!!!

Love the lions too, they're the reason i got into saltwater. He's probably had it before, I just never noticed it. The bump looks less noticeable today though.

It is very unhealthy to feed your saltwater fish freshwater food. Especially carp because they are high in thiaminase, it's an enzyme that will strip your fish of it 's own thamine.... a very important vitamin.
The size of your fish is very stunted for a 6 year old and is probably diet related.

What about salmon? Is it considered a freshwater fish or saltwater?

salmon is a bit too oily, you could feed a small amount once in a while, it is great for your fish, but hard on your water quality.
