so my uncle has a Juvi voliton lionfish that he has discovered recently ate his tomato clown
(which is large compared to the lion) and strangely he says his lionfish looks darker then usual and his waste looks red

he acts normal but since we are both worried i decided to post this and see what you guys think.. should we be worried? anything out of the ordinary? thanks for the help.

i thought lions ate there food whole (or try to). i was told they will eat anything half there size
(real size of there mouths). but you said the clown was bigger than the lion! somthing is not adding up right here
. i would think more likely the clown was going to try and bully the qute little baby vol and it stung it and let the CUC eat it befor your uncle saw them striping it to a carcus. just my thought-- im probly wrong.
is there anything else in the tank the same size as the clown was? you may want to put it in a container and watch to see if the vol goes after it. then you would know if its the vol or not.

i guess you misread. the clown wasn't bigger, just seemed to be a safe size to be in the same tank for a while, but i haven't seen them in a while.. i guess the vol got big enough to eat him?
but i guess this stuff happens
but what im really confused and worried about is the darker color in the lionfish.

i'm not surprised at all to hear that a volitans ate a clownfish. the reddish feces is likely due to the color of the clownfish (unless it looks bloody). as for the dark color, it may simply be that the clown is digesting a very large meal.
is the fish still acting normally (you said it was)? what is the lion's normal diet, and how often is it fed?
and most of all, can you post a pic?
again, the chances are high that the lion is digesting a huge meal and nothing more. do look for signs of bloating tho (not full belly bulging, but inflated-looking). also, i'd lay off feeding the lion for a few days.
