Lionfish: reef safe or not?

I saw a post that stated that lionfish were not reef safe. I have a 75 gallon reef with 115 pounds of lr, a 1 inch cc bed, two tomato clowns, two three-stiped damsels, a yellow tang, scooter blenny, good sized clean-up crew, and several corals. Is it safe to drop a small volitan or antenatta lion?

Hey there,
Aren't they carnivores that require live minnows for food? If so, I don't see why they are not reef-safe. But they can get really big as you know, so you just need to plan for that I guess.

Lionfish can be kept in a reef situation, but be aware they will eat crustaceans like crabs and shrimp. They will also put a large biological load on the aquarium since they need to be fed meaty foods regularly. Hope this helps.

I've never really heard of them eating any corals but if they are big enough they will probably eat every fish in your tank. So you want to make sure that the fish that are already in your tank are much bigger than the lionfish.

They can survive off of brine like usual fish, but will crap alot. Other than that there safe for a tank. This is what Ive heard numerous times via my LFS. If your worried about them eating your inverts, get a Dwarf Lion. Good Luck. Remeber dont shoot the messanger. :)
